Everything that is real was imagined first

Club Kids

The Club Kid all grown up

I’ve always said, “when I grow up” I’m gonna do something that
makes a difference and that helps people!

Back in the early 2000’s when most of my weekends had me pink hair, bright colours and ready to dance dance dance! At the time I just didn’t know what that something would be. Phlossy Roxx the burlesque performer, blogger and general poser you used to know is here to tell you, she’s has grown up just a little.

Across the ditch in Melbourne, I’ve acquired a slight Aussie accent AND I started a amazing wee project designed to make a difference and help people!

With an official name change behind me, countless business-y forms and a HUGE amount of time invested into research, learning different coding languages, and a whole bunch of trial and error – The Rockwell Project has been born!
The Rockwell Project Welcome video
Taking photos of kids in dreamland has now morphed into taking photos of extraordinary people following their dreams. My unique experience in front of a camera has grown into a photography and film portfolio, showcasing people and their stories, businesses and life journeys!

Building websites for charities here in Victoria, producing a tarot e-book, a women’s Goddess leadership course and filming elevator pitches – my teenage dream of helping others learn, share their knowledge and passions AND make a difference to their lives has finally become a reality!

I’m sure you can imagine, doing things a little differently with a splash of outrageousness has always been my style… I invite YOU to be part of this project with me!

Do you need help to sharing your project and passions with the world?

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012: Planning my next costume

burlesque, Club Kids

I’ve always loved Victoria’s Secret Fashion shows and secretly wanted to have an angel costume of my own…  I tried to once, performing about 5 years ago at Vector Arena with some amazing wings, however my budget wasn’t quite what that of Victoria’s Secret.

However I love these as my favourites and potential Burlesque costume inspiration in the future.  There are so many talented costume makers in New Zealand, picking out what I wanted would really be the hard bit.

Between wands, oversized wings and a $2.5 million jewelled “floral fantasy bra,”Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio and the rest of the beautiful angels strutted the catwalk tonight in New York. And they were joined by the musical sounds of Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars.

The show won’t be televised until Dec. 4, but you can sneak a peek of some of the outrageous lingerie right now (you’re welcome)!

What is Dr Sketchy?

Club Kids, photography
The event is, literally, Sketchy.  The event has now spread almost world wide including our country, lil old New Zealand. The characters involved are bizarre, including Tank Girl, circus freaks, punks, Victorian poets, fifties housewives, an evil Santa and opium-den dwellers. It even turned up in a prison last week.

Welcome to the surreal world of Dr Sketchy, in particular the local branches of a global “Anti-Art School” network originating in New York and described as “fringe performance” – a crossover between pop culture, cabaret, burlesque and drawing classes.  Doctor, they like your medicine, as the song goes. New Zealand’s branches in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch are flourishing with inventive, character-driven themes, as a night with the Auckland crew illustrates, in every sense.

Dr Sketchy was originally set up by an art school drop-out from Brooklyn, Molly Crabapple. Founded in 2005, she asked a simple question, ‘Why can’t drawing naked people be sexy?’ With the increase of interest in burlesque due to the popularity of celebrities such as Dita Von Teese and Lady Gaga, the event has become a worldwide movement.

Combining performance and visual art, there are Dr Sketchy events in 50 countries. In New Zealand there are already regular running events in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland and Nelson and more!!

Remember candy floss? So sugary sweet it made your teeth hurt & yet your childish brain demanded more, more, MORE until your brain collapsed into a sugar induced coma. I also like to call it kiddy crack.

Well, this Monday you can brush sticky wing tips (that wasn’t meant to sound as filthy as it came out) with the debauched Candy Floss Fairies of the K Road Christmas Carnival. Kawaii!! Squeep!

MC & candy cane wielder Lilly Loca is back with more sass & witty filth. Although this time she promises not to jizz on your face. Maybe just sprinkle a little fairy dust…

Bring your favourite tools: pens, paper, pencils, crayons, glue, cameras and/or finger paint. Dr. Sketchy is open to anyone, regardless of creed, colour and artistic style.

$10 on the door to feed the model.

Thanks to our awesome patrons of the arts: Gotham ComicsCheese on Toast and of course Rohan of the Wine Cellar.  More here

Life shouldn’t be boring in winter!

burlesque, Club Kids, roller derby

In the southern Hemisphere its Winter…. well and truly COLD.   I’ve just moved house so I litterally have less than 100 metres to walk to get to work.   The cold snap is totally a wakeup call…  followed swiftly with a strong cup of coffee from the Little Cake Kitchen  – White Chocolate Mocha or Ginger, Lemon and Honey… Mmmmmm Delicious first thing as a wake up or pick me up!

I’m looking out the window for work and over the last few hours have watch a pea soup fogg lift of the city.  There’s still a little remaining over the harbour.. its so beautiful…  Monday morning there was patches of sun shining through the fog which to me looked like fairy fingers or a disco building….

My pet hate is the idea of turning into hybernating bears in the winter… Staying home and vegging out on the couch.  That has its time and place in someones arms all wrapped up nice and cosy.  Cold weather shouldn’t be an excuse…  Wind, rain and stormy weather… now that’s another story…
So I haven’t been hybernating obviously I’ve been out and about – Performing and dressing up like a giant oversized pink doll girl.  Oh and playing Roller Derby!

Drag Queens and Tits… the two most opposite things in the world right!?  Love it!

Roller Derby – Another amazing sport full of stong minded women who are not afraid to speak their minds, drink lots, give each other a bash or two on the track and wear “Shiney Whore Tights” and spanky pants in public.   These girls are my family… of sorts anyway…  My advice to any derby girl…  – Dont ever lose your ‘non-derby’ friends…

This is my inspiration for a painting I’m currently working on for my wife!

Body art by one of NZ’s best!

Club Kids
Yesterday we’d planned a flat BBQ, invited a big group of friends round and been shopping for supplies… We’re half an hour out from people turning up and I get a distress call from a friend.
Its their bands first ever public gig and the model they’ve booked is a no show. Without mentioning names.. it really surprised me to hear this from that company!!
I initially wanted to stay home relax and catch up with friends like a good host should! Its not the easiest thing to ring around looking for someone comfortable enough to be painted up head to toe (effectively naked) in public! However being a Burlesque performer generally warants being almost naked in front of an audience.. (can’t see how it would work otherwise)!
So having decided I’d do it, (it was worth my while) I rushed off up the road not really knowing what to expect and hoping I’d brought everything of need! Turned out I should have brought eyelashes, glue and lipstick and left the different coloured undies at home!
The next 3.5 hours while the band do a full run through I’m starkers being painted up like this!

The night was a huge success and I had an absolute blast and hopefully my friends will forgive me for missing my own party…!!

Xxx
